The Maldives Men’s national squad departed for a training camp in Sri Lanka today.
For 9 days Team Maldives will train and play matches against competitive Sri Lankan teams during the tour before departing to Malaysia to participate in the 2022 Malaysia T20 Quadrangular Series against the hosts, Thailand and Bhutan respectively.
Newly appointed Captain Yoosuf Azyan Farhath and Vice Captain Adam Nasif Umar are leading this squad mix of youth and experience into 5 practice matches against competitive Sri Lankan teams beginning on Thursday 23rd June when they face Liberty SC in the morning and Colombo South U21 Combined Team in the afternoon.
The squad will be playing and practicing at Panadura Esplanade and De Soysa Park Stadium in Sri Lanka to replicate the conditions that are expected in July during the 2022 Malaysia T20 Quadrangular Series.
Head Coach Ahmed Neesham and Development Manager Imad Ismail are working with a group of players that have faced many difficulties over the past two and a half years.
In the same way the global cricket community has battled against practice, playing and travel restrictions, it is a testament to the players, officials and their families of their sacrifices, dedication and hard-work to be selected to represent the Maldives.
