A brand new tournament was launched today by the Cricket Board of Maldives that is aimed at setting in motion the U23 Men’s High Performance Programme.
For the first time in competitive Men’s cricket in the Maldives we will see teams from around the country compete against each other in this tournament of 10 x T20 matches played at Ekuveni Cricket Ground in Malé from December 28th to January 6th.
Players from two development programmes; Malé U23 Men’s Pool and Fuvahmulah City U23 Men’s Pool will form 3 teams and play nine round-robin matches with a Grand Final Match between the 2 best teams. Players participating in these programmes are eligible for selection.
Currently, these Pools of players are practicing daily with their allocated coaches in their specific regions and for their dedication to practices and efforts, they are rewarded with this ‘first-of-a-kind’ competition.
Any players not currently involved in these pools can get in touch with either CBM Development Manager, Imad Ismail (Malé) or CBM Regional Development Manager, Liam McCumiskey (Fuvahmulah) for eligibility information.
In addition, the best players from the tournament will be selected to the Maldives National U23 Men’s High Performance Programme scheduled to undertake international training camps and prepare for international competition.
High performance cricket is the sport being played, coached and developed at the highest level possible. High performance cricket overlaps with the upper tiers of professional cricket such as ICC full member International Squads, 1st class cricket and the various global T20 franchise cricket tournaments.
High performance cricket within the Maldives materialises as elite player and team performances at national and international levels. It is important to create competition for selection between players and to ensure there is continuous personal & professional development for all those involved.
The Cricket Board of Maldives aims to create and deliver a High Performance Programme that achieves elite player and squad development by reaching key milestone targets that begin from within the Youth Development Programme and continue up to club and international cricket.
