A bumper full day of cricket kicked-off the 2023 Greater Malé InterSchool Cricket activities at Ekuveni Cricket Ground on Saturday.
At 7am the U12s Cricket Carnival brought together many kids from the area to experience a fun-filled 1 hour of cricket. 5 Activity stages were setup and run by senior players and the team of cricket coaches.
Every child present received a prize for their participation and invited to join the Junior Cricket Programme that provides skills and enjoyment to players throughout the entire year.
After 8am, the U17 Girls had a ‘Big Match’ between Rehendhi and Thaajuddeen Schools. TS were won by 32 runs. Shifa top scored with 30 runs as she led her team to victory.
In the afternoon the U17 Boys played 2 matches with Match 1 also going the way of Thaajuddeen School as they won by 4 wickets with 3 pavers to spare in the 12 Over match.
Match 2 saw Muhyiddin School reach a mighty 209/1 off 12 Overs against Jamaluddin School – themselves fighting hard to reach 117 in the chase. Muhyidding School won by 92 runs, Thaad scoring 45 and Aflah Aslam not out on 26.
Matches begin in the 4th event on Sunday with the U13 Boys Tournament Match 1 between Muhyddin School and Thaajuddeen School at 2pm live from Ekuveni Cricket Ground, Malé.
After a gap of 3 years, the Cricket Board of Maldives is keen to make sure the capital city gets the game back into schools.
School cricket and professional mutual objectives between the schools and the CBM are vital to the introduction, awareness and development of the game throughout the Maldives.

After 3 years InterSchool Cricket returns to the capital with 2 boys tournaments and a Girls Big Match from February 4th.
The Cricket Board of Maldives appreciates the efforts and collaboration from the schools in the Greater Malé Region.
5 Schools will participate across the competitions and played over 8 Days culminating with Final Matches on February 11th. All matches to be played at Ekuveni Cricket Ground, Malé.
School Cricket within Malé has always been a launchpad for many budding cricketers and this year is no different as new players take up the game for the first time under the guidance of their CBM coaches and valuable support from school staff.
We invite all parents, teachers, staff and the public to come along to the games and be part of the smiles, fun and enjoyment.
InterSchool cricket returned to Fuvahmulah City in November 2022 and demonstrates the Cricket Board of Maldives commitment to providing cricket development opportunities around the Maldives.
