2023 Milo Ramadan Cricket Carnival – Open Tournament

The nations most popular Ramadan sporting event is back once again this year with tournaments around the country for men and women. young and old, entry-level and experienced players alike.

Play begins on 24 March at Ekuveni Cricket Ground for the Malé based tournaments and 25 March at Fuvahmulah Cricket Ground.

A further Tournament is planned for L. Kunahandhoo, details pending.

Day 1 – 24.03.23

AVIA MALDIVES v DHIVEHI SIFAINGE CLUB

AVIA won the toss and chose to bowl first and it looked like a good choice as opener Ahmed Tholath was bowled early on scoring just 1 run from 6 balls. 

Ismail Nashid top scored with 31 from 12 balls and was backed up by Mohamed Shareef with a patient 29 from 21 balls to bring Dhivehi Sifainge Club to 101/2 from their 8 Overs.

In reply, Jilwaz Rasheed creamed himself 32 from 13 balls before the obligatory retirement. 

With 13 runs needed from 13 balls, Mohamed Shadhuhan (24 from 12 balls) rotated the strike with Ali Shunan (33 off 16 balls) to bag the points at the end of the 6th Over.

AVIA Maldives won by 6 wickets

KDM v MACL

MACL opened the proceedings in the second match of the day with a huge 145/5 from their 8 Overs. Ameel scored 33 off just 10 balls, Adam Nasif 22 from 9 balls and Muawiyath with 21 from 10 balls.
Shaaz grabbed 2 wickets as all the KDM bowlers got punished. 

In reply, National squad stalwarts Rishwan (34 from 13 balls) and Haziq (36 from 13 balls) tried their best to get near the target. Hussain Rimaz chipped in with a cultured 19 from 8 balls.
Pick of the bowlers Ahmed Neesham giving away just 16 runs and snaffling 2 wickets could well be the deciding factor as MACl hung on to win bny 17 runs. 

MACL won by 17 runs.

Day 2 – 25.03.23

SUGARCONE v METEORS

Meteors batted first with Ibrahim Ali and Fazeel Jaleel both scoring 28 each. Sadhoof 19 and Naail 18, made 131 total from their 8 Overs.

In reply, SugarCone found it difficult against some tight bowling. Ibrahim Ali scored 18 from 11 balls and Shareef nicked 10 before being clean bowled.

Meteors won by 23 runs.

VAARU v POLICE

Vaaru stormed to a tournament high total of 148 from the opening innings of their match against Police. Mohamed Jinah (36 from 17 balls), Ali Muaaz (35 from 14 balls) and Moosa Jinah (31 from 11 balls) set a high standard of hitting as their team amassed 148/0.

In reply, Police openers Murrath Ahmed (27 from 16) and Ismail Naseer (23 from 12) found only help coming from Shiruhan with his 28 cameo from just 12 balls. This was not enough as they lost the match by 37 runs.
Ibrahim Aafaaq was the pick of the bowlers conceding just 12 runs and taking 2 wickets from his allotted 2 Overs.

Vaaru won by 37 runs.

Day 3 – 26.03.23

OFFU FC v ARC

ARC won the toss and chose to bowl first and they will have been happy to keep OFFU to 102/3 from their 8 Overs. Afzal Faiz top scored with 26 from 17 balls supported by Abdulla Rafeeu not-out on 18 from 9 balls. 

In reply, ARC batsmen took only 5.5 Overs to pick off the runs. Ibrahim Nashath 36 from 14 balls and Ibrahim Hussain 23 runs from just 9 balls. Leem Shafeeq also chipped in with 14 runs from 12 balls.

ARC won by 7 wickets.

KINZA v MERRY CORNER

Merry Corner started their tournament ambitions by batting first and scoring 122/1 from 8 Overs. Both openers batted through to retirement with Haikal scoring 32 from 16 balls and Ahmed Arafath reaching 32 from 23 balls.

In reply, Kinza openers Salaam Mohamed (35 from 13 balls) and Faizan (34 from 22 balls) did enough damage to the target of 123 before they were out retired that it just took 9 runs from Evan Amir and one run from Azaan Ahmed Zuhair for them to gain the points. 

Kinza Cafe won by 6 wickets.

Day 4 – 27.03.23

AVIA v KDM

KDM won the toss and cose to bat first. Hassan Haziq Rasheed batted well as he scored 33 from 14 balls and was supported from the tailend by Ahmed Munaz with 26 from 14 balls as their team combined to score 105/2 from their 8 Overs. 

A brace of wickets each for Ibrahim Rizan and Mohamed Shadhuhan.

In reply, Jilwaz Rasheed was in fine form again and retired not-out on 35 from 14 balls. Mohamed Shadhuhan (10) and Ali Shunan (15) did enough to get the victory in the 7th Over scoring 109/2.

AVIA Maldives won by 5 wickets.

DSC v MACL

DSC won the toss and batted first. At the half-way point of the innings the team were 49/2 and in a good position to push on to raise a target above 100. However, the MACL players produced some top-draw bowling and fielding to restrict DSC to 80/6 from 8 Overs.
Ameel Ahmed Mauroof took 2 for 16 runs and 1 each for Saafee, Neesham and Ismail Anil.

In reply, openers Ameel and Adam romped to victory with just 25 balls bowled in their innings.
Ameel hit 22 and Adam pummled 35 from 12 balls. 

An early finish and time to rest and prepare for another 2 matches same time, same place tomorrow. 

MACL won by 7 wickets.

Day 5 – 28.03.23

SUGARCONE v VAARU

Vaaru won the toss and put SugarCone into bat first. Ahmed Amir 29 from 22 was the pick of the batsmen with a cameo 11 runs from Abdulla Afeef. 

Super tight bowling from Hussain Usaid and Moosa Jinah restricted SugarCone to a total of 89/3 from their 8 Overs.

In reply, Vaaru thought they could get the points especially when Moosa Jinah ripped 30 runs from 21 balls. However, support came slowly and wickets fell for the SugarCone guys.
Ibrahim Ali bagged 2 wickets as well as Shareef and the combined bowling attack restricted SugarCone to 83/5 from 8 Overs. 

SugarCone won by 6 runs.

METEORS v POLICE

Meteors rocked up to the ground today eager to put on a show and straight from the off Ibrahim Ali pummelled the bowling to all parts of the field – finishing on 57 runs from 21 balls. Naail chipped in with 11 and 13 for Ahmed Sobir was enough to give them a total of 122/6 from the allotted 8 Overs.

In chase, Police started briskly with 30 from 3 Overs but suffered a retirement of Mohamed Hassan after he scored 5 from 8 balls. Just 7 runs scored in the 4th Over really built the pressure on the batting side, now requiring 86 from 24 balls.
Ismail Naseer had a good knock with 22 from 16 but the cunning bowlers of Meteors prevailed in the end.

Meteors won by 37 runs.

Day 6 – 29.03.23

OFFU FC v KINZA

Winning the toss Kinza Cafe chose to bowl first and even though Afzal Faiz from Offu FC scored 27 from 15 the bowlers managed to curtail the rest of the batsmen to create a target to chase of 98.
Abdulla Rafeeu 12 from 11 balls and Minister Ahmed Mahloof 17 from 17 balls along with Afzal were the pick of the batters. 

In reply, Mohamed Idham 10 runs from 13 balls and Faizan 25 from 13 balls tried their best to steer for victory. A last blast from Azyan Zuhair gave hope, however all wwas lost and Offu FC took all the points by restricting Kinza Cafe to 84/4 from 8 Overs.

Offu FC won by 13 runs.

ARC v MERRY CORNER

ARC sent a clear message to the rest of the teams with a 103 run victory in the 2nd match of the day at Ekuveni Cricket Ground.

4 batsmen retired after scoring their maximums; Nashath 33 from 9, Azzam 34 from 18, Ibrahim Hussain 34 from 6! And Zakariyya Abdul 36 from 9 were joined by Hassan Rasheed not-out on 17 and Wisam not-out with 1 to bring a tournament record total of 183 for this year.

In reply, it was the mercurial Mohamed Haikal that top scored for his team with 19 runs. Good bowling and a almost impossible chase increased the pressure on the batsmen. As they reached 80/3 from their 8 Overs. 

ARC win by 103 runs.

Day 7 – 30.03.23

AVIA v MACL

MACL got the third win from 3 matches as they became Group A winners with a victory over Avia Maldives. 

Batting first AVIA lost in-form batsman Jilwaz Rasheed for 4 but Mohamed Shadhuhan was there to top score with 31 runs from 18 balls and well supported by Ibrahim Rizan (25 from 18) and Ali Shunan 14 from 8 balls.


AVIA set MACL a target of 115 runs to win. Ameel, 35 from just 9 balls and Ismail Anil, 32 from just 9 balls did enough to seal victory with 5 balls to spare.

MACL progress automatically to the Semi-finals, whilst AVIA will have to wait and see if they are the best placed 2nd placed team from the 3 Groups.

DSC v KDM

KDM said today ‘whatever ARC can do, we can do better’. KDM batted first and equalled yesterdays record by scoring 183 themselves from their 8 Overs. Hussain Rimaz (31 from 10 balls), Mohamed Rishwan (36 from 9 balls), Mohamed Amir (32 from 12 balls) were all retired ‘not-out’ whilst Ali Ibrahim and Ahmed Munaz were both not-out with 19 and 16 respectively.
DSC shared the bowling around the players with Ahmed Rashaad possibly the safest with just 23 conceded from his allotted 2 Overs.

In reply, DSC gave a good battle as Ismail Nashid scored 35 from 19 balls and Mohamed Shareef pinged 31 from 11 balls. A 184 target is tough on any day of the week and so it proved for the Sifainge Club. 

Rishwan took the lone wicket of the entire match from his 2 Overs with ball in hand.

KDM won by 52 runs

Day 8 – 31.03.23

SUGARCONE v POLICE

Police batted first in the opening match of the day and Ahmed Shiruhan scored a quick fire 22 from 11 balls to bring his team to 94/5 from their 8 Overs. 

Abdulla Afeef and Shareef took 2 wickets each.

In reply, Ibrahim Ali (23 from 11 balls) and Abdulla Afeef (31 from 12 balls) setup a quick finish as Sugar Cone reached the target of 95 in the 6th Over. 

Sugar Cone won by 6 wickets and will have to wait and see if they are the best 2nd placed team in the Tournament.

VAARU v METEORS

Half way through Vaaru’s innings, they had scored a respectable 57 for the loss of no wickets. Mohamed Jinah Ibrahim hit 33 from 19 balls before retiring. Moosa Jinah creamed 32 from 14 balls and Ali Muaaz was not-out on 14 from 9 balls, bring a team total of 109/1 from 8 Overs.

In reply, Meteor blasted 17 from the first over but lost strongman Ahmed Hassan Sobir for 6. After 4 Overs, it was still just 1 wicket down and just 40 runs to win from 24 balls.
Ibrahim Ali made light work scoring 32 from 13 and Aflah scored 17 from 15 balls.
Sadhoof and Ryan Tholal were there at the end to secure victory, 3 wins out of 3 and a place in the semi finals.

Day 9 – 01.04.23

OFFU FC v MERRY CORNER

Up first today was Merry Coner batting with intent to score a very healthy 140/1 from 8 Overs. Mohamed Haikal, again in the runs with 31 from 16 balls and Hassan Haneef with 35 from 21 balls did the damage. However, they were helped along by 62 extras!

In reply, Offu FC began briskly with Minister Ahmed Mahloof scoring 34 from 21 balls before retiring. Ismail Aksam (10) and Ibrahim Nasheed (13) chipped in but all those extras conceded in the 1st innings came back to haunt them as they lost by a single run. High drama at Ekuveni.

ARC v KINZA

ARC took their 3rd Group Match with positive intent and made it 3 wins from 3 with another fine display of hitting. Batting first they smashed 149 from 8 Overs. Leem Shafeeq (36 from 11 balls), Ibrahim Hussain (24 from 11 balls) and Hussain Rimaz (25* from 11 balls) were the architects of the innings.

Faizan snaffled and gobbled up 3 wickets for 35 from his permitted 2 Overs.

In reply, Kinza didnt really knock the door of a convincing run chase. Hussain Izuaan was their top scorer with 10 whilst the others meandered in single figures until the inevitable happened and ARC won by 77 runs.

Day 10 – 02.04.23 – SEMI FINALS

MACL v SUGAR CONE

Batting first, MACL batters all reached double figures amazing a huge tournament record of 189/1 from 8 Overs.

Ismail Ali, 35, Ameel, 31, Ismail Anil, 21, Saafee, 33* and Muawiyath 25* together scored 18 maximums and 7 boundaries. 

In reply, the SugarCone batsmen played well scoring 31* for Abdulla Afeef, 17 for Sais Mohamed and 21* for Ibrahim Ali taking their run chase to 100 before running out of balls to face.

MACL won by 89 runs

METEORS v ARC

Meteors batted first in the second semi-final of the day. Ibrahim Ali made an excellent start with 35 from just 15 balls. However, some excellent bowling by ARC did not let any other batsman get a grip on posting a healthy target as they finished on 93/3 from 8 Overs.

A wicket each for Leem Shafeeq, Ibrahim Nashath and Zakariyya Abdul Latheef.

In reply, ARC booked their place in tomorrow Final match with a batting display worthy of the opponents in the upcoming final.
Ibrahim Nashath scored 34 from just 7 balls! Leem Shafeeq 29 from 12 balls and Ibrahim Hussain 30 from 12 balls all saw the target done and dusted in the 6th Over.

Day 11 – 03.04.23 – FINAL MATCH

ARC v MACL

An exciting Final Match in the glorious sunshine at Ekuveni Cricket Ground greeted the plates, officials and spectators this evening between ARC and MACL.

Winning their respective groups and holding batsmen of the highest calibre in their ranks, this shaped up to be a great Final Match.

ARC were put into bat first; Leem Shafeeq (35) and Ibrahim Hussain (33) led the charge and were supported by Ibrahim Nashath (13) and Hassan Rasheed (15) as they reached 131 for 3 wickets from their 8 Overs. 

A brace of wickets for the evergreen Ismail Anil was the pick of the MACL bowlers.

In reply, MACL began with good intent. Both openers retiring after scoring 31 by Ismail Ali and 36 by Ameel Ahmed Mauroof. Saafee swept in with 34 from just 10 balls.

At this point in the innings, MACL required just 22 runs from 19 balls. However, ARC bowlers sent down rockets of precision and withheld MACL from winning the match – which was possible on the last ball.

ARC won by 6 runs.

A presentation ceremony took place at the conclusion of the match with the following awards shared and given out by:
