CBM President Elected I.C.C. Regional Representative member for Asia

Congratulations to Mr. Mohamed Aflah, the Cricket Board of Maldives President who has been elected as the International Cricket Council Regional Representative for Asia; one of the first occasions when a Maldivian has been elected to be part of an international sports governing body.

President

All 21 Associate members from Asia were eligible to nominate and vote. The ballot for the position concluded on Friday 11th May with Mr. Aflah taking 80% of the votes. The announcement was made by Aminul Islam – I.C.C. Development Manager for Asia.

This position achieved by former national team player Mr. Aflah comes hand in hand with the recent announcement that Maldives has achieved ‘Associate Member’ status within the International Cricket Council as the world governing body for cricket re-structures itself for the years ahead in an ever changing game.

The current President and Executive Committee of the Cricket Board of Maldives are committed to raising the profile of cricket within the Maldives and raising the profile of Maldives Cricket on the international scene. The senior men’s team recently participated in the World T20 Regional Qualifiers in Kuwait, the first time a team from our island archipelago has taken part in an I.C.C. Tournament.

Speaking just after the announcement was made, Mr. Aflah spoke positively about the opportunities this position created for not only being involved in cricket development here in the Maldives but also on the international scene by drawing on the resources and experiences available from the many members of the I.C.C.

Mr. Aflah will be attending the International Cricket Council Annual General Meeting to be held in Ireland in June 2018. Here, all members from around the globe have ample opportunities to meet, discuss, plan and begin to implement cricket development ideas.

On behalf of all the players, supporters, staff and members of the Cricket Board of Maldives, we congratulate Mr. Aflah on this achievement.
