CBM welcomes Maldives President to open ‘Jaleel’s Lounge’, and launch the “Hithaai Roohun Kulheyshe Cricket” logo and Indoor Cricket
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has officiated the opening of the player’s lounge “Jaleel’s Lounge”, the launching of “Hithaai Roohun Kulheyshe Cricket” logo and the very first Indoor Cricket match.
Upon his arrival at Malé Sports Complex this evening, the President was welcomed by Vice President Faisal Naseem, the CBM President Mohamed Faisal and CBM Vice President Ahmed Hussain and Faruhath Jaleel, the President of Milan Cricket Academy.
President Solih opened the Jaleel’s lounge and inaugurated the “Hithaai Roohun Kulheyshe Cricket” logo and Indoor Cricket.
Mohamed Faisal and Faruhath Jaleel accompanied President Solih and Vice President Faisal Naseem touring the Player’s Lounge. The player’s lounge was developed by the oldest cricket academy in the country, and donated to the CBM. The lounge is named ‘Jaleel’s Lounge’ in memory of the late Ahmed Jaleel whom supported and guided cricket within the Maldives throughout his life.
Many members of the Jaleel family were in attendance at todays event as the lounge was officially donated to the Cricket Board of Maldives. The CBM wishes to thank the entire family and Milan cricket Academy for the valuable assistance and drive given to the development of cricket.
The President and the Vice President were presented with copies of the “Hithaai Roohun Kulheyshe Cricket” logo unveiled today, by the CBM.
The slogan translated means ‘Play cricket with Heart and Passion’, is the spearhead of the ‘Cricket For All’ development programme that aims to offer many formats of cricket to all areas of the community and throughout the country.
One fo these formats is ‘Indoor Cricket’ with which President Solih and Vice President Faisal Naseem participated in the first ever Indoor Cricket match played in the country.
As captains on opposing teams, respectively named as President Eleven Team and Vice President Eleven Team. Both teams comprised of veteran and current cricket players as well as top cricket officials.
The Vice President Eleven team won the game by 89 runs in 10 overs while the Presidents Eleven team managed to secure 85 runs in 12 overs.
Indoor Cricket is a much needed boost to the time available to play some format of competetive cricket within the Maldives – with matches able to be played at all times regardless of weather conditions outside. Crucially, allowing those players unable to play matches during the day, an opportunity to perform in a match environment once again.
The CBM are extremely thankful for the support and generosity shown by members of the public to assist in the development of players, teams, equipment and facilities.
The CBM appreciates the on-going support and determination of the President, Vice President and the entire governments drive to developing sports around the country.
