Match 1: AEC v MJS
AEC won by 135 runs.

AEC made a strong start to the Boys U16 InterSchool today with a big win over MJS. Captain Ali Yaneeu scores another century today with 125 not out off 58 balls. The other opener Ahmed Zaadh scored 68 (retired) from 48 balls to post a target of 232 for MJS to win.

In reply, a brisk start from the bat and extras made us all think a big upset was on the cards. However, some tight fielding and the pressure of the run chase made MJS lose all 10 wickets by the 15th Over.

Congratulations Yaneeu and Zaadh! Big runs, if only helped by dropped catches 😊

Thank you to the parents, teachers and school staff for their superb support to the players from both teams! 🏏💪🇲🇻

Match 2: AEC v HAS
AEC won by 10 wickets!

AEC continued the tournament with an impressive 10wkt victory over Hafiz Ahmed School U16s with another half century from Ahmed Zaadh and without their captain and leading rub scorer, Yaneeu.

Winning the toss, AEC put HAS into bat first and the team struggled to 107 all out from 19 Overs. Jushan 24 and Azooz 17 were the pick of the batsmen. Bowler Haikal made up for yesterday’s poor bowling by snapping up 2 wickets for just 18 runs in his 4 overs.

In reply, acting captain Zaadh and Haikal saw the target of 108 was met with aggressive hitting and ended the match with 55 and 33 runs each.

HAS had a reality check with only 1 boy attending regular practices on the importance of practicing and learning cricket outside of tournament times.
HAS regroup and asses the damage as AEC march on towards booking a place in the Final.

Thank you to the parents, teachers and school staff for their superb support to the players from both teams! 🏏💪🇲🇻
It was good to see the teachers and parents today asking the players about the game and how the scoring is done. 💪💪💪 and with an early finish, some teachers took to the field to have a go at hitting the ball!

Match 3: AEC v MJS
AEC won by 3 wickets

A low scoring match on a damp pitch made for cricketing drama until the last ball as MJS almost scuppered AEC’s charge to the Final.

MJS, batting first, lost all their wickets for just 84 runs. 3 wickets for Riyaan and 2 each for Anas, Has’aan and Mahmood.

AEC thought they will pick the runs off quickly but MJS showed a fighting display of excellent fielding and attacking bowling with Aain taking 4 wickets.
This exposed the tail-enders who with the help of some inexperienced wicket-keeping dragged their team over the winning line scoring 87 for the loss of 7 wickets.

Scorers: Riyaz Rasheed & Liam McCumiskey

Match 2: FS v HAS
FS won by 57 runs

A match marred by poor batting saw FS continue their winning streak.

FS won the toss and chose batting. A series of mix-ups in calling enables HAS to take 3 run-outs in quick time and it was only the young shoulders of Zuha making 33 runs that stabled the innings. FS made 109 All Out. 2 wickets each for Maiha and Athika.

In reply, not single batsman reached double figures and the 52 runs made in the chase is made to look ‘ok’ by 37 extras bowled.
Meesa 3 wickets and 2 each for Nahee, Zuha and Suha dragged the match to a very late finish in the 20th Over.

Umpires: Aishath Aima & Aishath Hanifa
Scorer: Fathimath Anaal

In reply, only 4 HAS players registered runs as they limped to 40 All Out from 8 Overs.
MJS have a potent bowling attack of Anu and Ula who took 5 of the 10 wickets.

AEC won by 29 runs

A high scoring and hugely entertaining match as both teams provided drama and skills from the first ball.

Winning the toss, AEC chose to bat first and posted an impressive 205/4 from their 20 overs. Zaadh and Haikal making 72 and 60 runs each.

In reply, HAS captain Jushan, went ‘all-in’ from ball one and scored 76 runs from 42 balls with 10 boundaries and 3 maximums. BAcked up by Saneeu and Maail, HAS really looked like they could pull off a big upset. However, AEC made the smart move of bringing on leg spinner Haikal (3 wickets) and he alongside Luzoom (3 wickets), switched the pressure back onto the chasing team.
