Hiriya and Male’ Sports made a winning start in the Philips Go Gear Twenty20 Cup beating West Sports and MS Helping Hand respectively the day 1 of the tournament.
In the morning match played on Friday, Hiriya beat WSC by 9 wickets. West Sports won the toss and batted first making just 96 runs for 8 wickets in their 20 overs. Ibrahim Ali top scored with 37. Shafraz Jaleel took 3 wickets for 13 runs in his 4 overs. In reply, Hiriya made the deficit in 7.1 overs, thanks to a 22 ball 61 runs from Ahmed Hassan Sobir. Ishan Jayakody made 23 runs.
IN the afternoon match Male’ Sports beat MS by 80 runs. Batting first Male’ Sports made 212 for the loss of 6 wickets. Mohamed Aflah scored the tournaments first century with 106 runs. Abdulla Shahid made 30 runs at the top of the innings. Zaid took 2 wickets for MS. In reply MS made 132 for the loss of 5 wickets in 20 overs. Ahmed Zaid top scored with 38 runs. Rishwan made 28 runs.
