With great support from the government development of the most successful sport in Maldives history can be achieved by allocating land in Hulhumalé for a purpose built stadium, a ‘Cricket House’ to achieve an income to become financially self sustainable, and working hand in hand with the Ministry of Youth & Sports to provide the permission to install practice and match facilities around the country – in particular within Vilimalé.
The meeting also addressed the challenges facing cricket practices and matches at Ekuveni Cricket Ground in Malé and a number of solutions were evaluated.
The C.B.M. used this opportunity to inform the Hon. Ministers about tournament and competition plans around the country and provided a report about the recent successful C.B.M. XI that defeated a Sri Lanka team in both the matches played. The success of these matches can be built upon and provide foundations to a successful National Team in the near future.
This recent tour was evidence that ‘Sports Tourism’ has the potential to be a development and finaicial success with touring parties eager to visit and play competetive cricket within our facilities.
On this note the Hon. Ministers requested the C.B.M. to provide a detailed plan of how this would work in Hulhumalé.
Finally, the matter of budgets and assistance was discussed and a new Strategic Plan founded on the C.B.M. President Mohamed Aflah and his EXCO teams’ vision of cricket shall be completed and presented to the M.Y.S.
It is a great opportunity for the C.B.M. to share it’s visions and be afforded the time and support from the Ministry of Youth & Sport to reach the common goal of sport success for our nation.
