Bridging the gap between Senior and Junior Cricket
On behalf of the Executive Committee of The Cricket Board of Maldives and myself as President responsible for setting the strategic direction and administration of cricket throughout the country it is with great pleasure to announce 9 Tournaments to be played across the country in the last 4 months of this year.
This group of 9 tournaments that will be played in Malé and Fuvahmulah is the 1st phase of a vision of mine to bridge the gulf between Junior and Senior Cricket here in the Maldives. As the recently elected member of the International Cricket Council Regional Representative Member for Asia I have had the privilege to learn and understand from our successful international peers such as Malaysia, Bhutan, Ireland and Singapore that investing in junior cricket is the bedrock of further strengthening our National Teams in the future.
2017 & 2018 has also seen financial investment in a new Indoor Cricket Hall, financial investment outside of Malé to develop cricket at grass roots levels across the country and financial investment to begin a serious girls/women’s cricket programme. For the remainder of 2018 we will see, with these tournaments, an investment in Junior Cricket within Malé.
To Underline, strengthen and define the successes in Maldives Cricket since 2016, it is now time to develop our Club system and Junior Coach System. These 9 Tournaments ahead of us are setup to encourage Cricket Clubs to be responsible, along with the C.B.M. Coaches, to take part in the Junior and Women’s Tournaments across the country. To offer their years of competition experience and pass this onto youngsters. To build a legacy of ‘next generation’ senior players. To create a togetherness within clubs that we so often see in other cricket playing nations. To help build the vision of cricket being played around the country and our national teams performing at the highest levels.
Sincerely
Mohamed Aflah
President
Cricket Board of Maldives
